CDNetworks logo

We’ve partnered with CDNetworks – a global leader in CDN technologies – to provide Brightbox customers with an easy, scalable and reliable way to dramatically accelerate performance of their web applications.

The service works by seamlessly delivering static content (e.g images, css and javascript) to your website visitors from a high performance “edge” cache server nearest to their geographic location.

Global network

The network of global cache servers consists of 45 Points of Presence (POPs) located in 23 cities, with multiple nodes at each POP.

CDN Q & A

How does the CDN work with my application?

In most cases, you’ll simply need to set your application’s asset host to your CDN domain:

ActionController::Base.asset_host = "http://assets%d.<appname>.brightcdn.com"

Do I need to make changes to my Brightbox servers?

The CDN requires that your server outputs the correct HTTP headers, check out the CDN Wiki page for more details. Your Brightbox should be already configured correctly, but we can assist you with any changes required.

How do we flush old objects from the cache?

As the CDN works with Rails’ asset helpers, there’s no real need to flush old objects from the cache. If the original file changes, then Rails will update the asset timestamp, invalidating the old url.

All my traffic comes from Europe – is it worth me using the CDN?

Yes, especially if you serve lots of static files.
