Affiliate Programme
With the Brightbox Affiliate Programme you can earn money by referring new customers to us. If you have a relevant website or blog you can use your unique affiliate URL to direct visitors to the Brightbox site.
When someone clicks your affiliate link and signs up as a new customer for one of our rails hosting services (and keeps it for 3 months) you’ll receive a payment equal to one months fee for the Brightbox product they purchased.
Example
A visitor to your website clicks your Brightbox affiliate link, visits our site and then signs up for a Brightbox 512 – you receive a cheque for £69 (approx 135 USD or 95 EUR)

It’s simple to get started with the affiliate program (you don’t need to be a Brightbox customer):
- Register as a Brightbox user if you’re a Brightbox customer you can skip to step 3)
- Create an account
- In your account choose “Affiliate Programme” from the navigation options
- Add your affiliate link to your website or blog and start sending visitors to Brightbox
You can login to your account at any time to see how many visits, unique visitors and sales have been received from your unique affiliate url.
Affiliate FAQs
Is there a minimum affiliate payout?
No, you get paid for all referrals you make.
How and when will I get paid?
Payments due to affiliates are made by bank transfer once a month, on or around the 1st of the month. Once you have an affiliate payment showing as due in your account, you simply email an invoice (see below regarding VAT) to affiliates@brightbox.co.uk and we’ll transfer the money at the next payment date.
Can I use my affiliate link myself to get a discount?
No. We don’t credit sales where the affiliate link belongs to the person buying the product. Sorry :)
What if an existing customer signs up and buys another product?
Only sales to new customers qualify for affiliate sales.
Do you offer recurring commissions?
At this time we only offer one-off payments. We may introduce a recurring commission in the future but we don’t have any plans right now.
How do you track affiliate visitors?
As with most affiliate schemes, when a visitor comes to our site from an affiliate link we set a cookie in their browser to record which affiliate partner referred them. When a new customer reaches the checkout stage, we look to see if they were referred by an affiliate and if so we record this as an affiliate sale.
How long does the affiliate cookie last?
90 days.
What about vat?
If you are a VAT registered business in the UK, we will add VAT to your affiliate payments. You’ll need to email us a valid VAT invoice (see above) which includes your VAT ID (registration number).
If you an EU VAT-registered business, we do NOT add VAT to your affiliate payments, but you still need to email us a valid VAT invoice, which includes both your VAT ID and our VAT ID (GB 916 139 623).
If you’re not VAT-registered and based in the UK, EU or anywhere else in the world, we do NOT add VAT to your affiliate payments.
Can I use my affiliate link on any type of website?
The Brightbox affiliate program is aimed at websites and blogs related to “on topic” subjects including:
- Ruby
- Ruby on Rails
- Hosting
- Web development
- Virtualisation
You may not use your affiliate URL in connection with any activities we deem as “spam”. We reserve the right to refuse or withdraw your affiliate status at any time (we would of course still pay for any referrals received to date).
What if someone signs up for an annual package – will I get a bigger payment?
You get the same payment (equal to one months fee) whether a customer signs up for a monthly or annual billing plan. See rails hosting pricing matrix for details.
Is this a multi-tier programme?
At present this is just a simple, single tier affiliate program.
What constitutes a conversion?
Our affiliate program only counts an actual sale as a conversion.
Can I create affiliate links to point to different pages on the Brightbox site?
Not right now, but we’ll likely add this functionality at a later date.
Can I use banners or graphics with my affiliate link?
Yes, but in most cases text links will probably work best.
